m0dnAr were a short lived gaggle of avant-sellouts from the Hudson Valley region of New York. This compilation pairs together the best elements from their two surviving artifacts- m0dnAr (2003) and Rome Was Built in a Day (2004). The former was a collection of pieces recorded either separately or together between 2001 and 2003. The latter was an album put together in a single 24 hour period

In an increasingly chaotic world, m0dnAr is both the cure and the disease. The age of information is defined by variety and open-ended space in which we are awarded our opportunities to make decisions. For the average user/ consumer/ content, this process of making up their own minds is a chore, one that they can not readily do themselves with the stress and strain of work and family in the uncompromising and controlling environment of “western-style” democracy.

Enter m0dnAr, an art collective unit not unlike the versificator in Orwell’s 1984. m0dnAr is here to make these tough decisions for you. The answers lie in the very chaos itself. When the answers get too tough to squeegee out of your boggled and weary minds that are still reeling from the excess and absurdity of deleting spam pop-up ads and keeping track of which war we’re fighting, m0dnAr is the solution. The solution; just sit back and sink in the arbitrary nature of humanity as it siphens out its last hurrah. In the future, the answers will come pretty much as the questions came in; at random. We will be brave in this bold new step into a new normality completely perpendicular to our current one. We must allow for the passage of mediocrity. We must take two steps forward to go one step back, three steps to the left, four steps down, and always twirling towards our new freedoms. We must not repeat. We must not repeat. We must be random. We must be m0dnAr.

Sure, all your friends will be right there with us in the brave new world of digitrash and recycled culture; the musick of the past will join hands as m0d’n’Art takes you all the places you can hope to go before the violence and pornography of nighttime television lulls you to sleep. But in addition to Devo and Dali and Dean and Dada, we will be joined by the soundtrack to your life that you have forgotten; the children’s songs, the video game music, the corporate anthems, the incidental music, the hum of machinery, the undetectable sound of microscopic radium flying above your head that you yearn to be a part of like the little kid in Willy Wonka. The process will be sloppy. The shortcuts will take longer. If it sounds like a convuluted mess, it is no accident.

Of course, you may not buy into a radical new idea like m0dnAr. This does not concern us really. We will continue making musick so you don’t have to. m0dnAr has been specifically designed as a collective unit that can be the worst bar band in a shitty scene or the biggest band in popular music history. Rest assured, the world is ready for m0dnAr. m0dnAr’s just not ready for the rest of the world. In their pathetic attempts at mimicry, collusion, amalgamation, and/or solidarity, they will strike the right chord eventually.

Or perhaps it’s all a ruse. m0dnAr may just be the desperate attempt of some immature rebels to take over and subvert the mainstream by flooding the sonic airways with misinformation, misabbreviation, and dissonance to overbear the circuitry of the machinal world. Mental Hacking if you will. It’s postmodern and culture-jamming and retro and ironic and all the other buzzwords you assholes want to throw our way. Is m0dnAr a tool for the state or a pipe dream from the underground? Maybe it’s both. Maybe it’s all that and more. Maybe it’s m0dnAr.
